Colleen Hayes, MA, MFT
Prior to working as a therapist, I worked for several years in the education field as a recruiter and trainer for youth programs including summer camps, museums and high schools. Eventually, I begun to feel a calling to support kids and families in other ways and started training as a therapist in 2010 in the Oakland/San Francisco area.
During my time in the Bay Area, I worked in day treatment for adults recovering from addiction and co-occurring disorders. I also worked with students in counseling centers and high school classrooms with intense emotional and behavioral needs.
In 2013, my husband and I spent a year living on Hawaii’s Big Island where we coached Special Olympic basketball. I also worked as a crisis responder for adults and children experiencing severe mental health symptoms in addition to their developmental disabilities.
In 2014, my husband and I returned to Chico. The Chico community has been warm and welcoming. During my time in Butte County, I have been a service provider in a Partial Hospitalization program and in Intensive Outpatient programs for adolescents, seniors, and substance abuse treatment.
My work in a wide variety of settings has sharpened my clinical skills to best support clients struggling with bipolar disorders, anger management, addiction recovery, depression, anxiety, co-occurring disorders and trauma recovery. I have strong ties to community members providing mental and medical health resources and am always willing to collaborate with other treatment providers to create a support system that works for you.
Over the years I have become deeply interested and committed both personally and professionally to developing healthy relationships and meaningful communication. It is my belief that recovery from codependency and toxic relationships can alleviate mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual illness.
It is my hope that I can be helpful during your journey to find health and wellbeing. Best wishes!
